Percy Tau Released by Qatar SC After Short Spell – What’s Next for the Bafana Star?

South African footballer Percy Tau is officially a free agent after parting ways with Qatari club Qatar SC. The club confirmed his release via social media on Thursday, marking the end of a brief six-month stint in the Middle East.

Tau joined Qatar SC at the beginning of 2025 following his contract termination with Egyptian giants Al Ahly. However, his time in Qatar did not go as expected. The 31-year-old attacker failed to score in 10 competitive matches, though he managed to assist in four goals during that time.

Despite the goalless run, Tau showed moments of creativity and experience on the pitch. His overall career stats remain impressive. While playing for Al Ahly, he found the net 30 times and assisted 14 goals in 126 appearances. Before that, with Mamelodi Sundowns, Tau scored 24 goals and provided 27 assists in 103 matches.

Tau has already returned to South Africa and was recently spotted at Orlando Stadium, watching the match between Orlando Pirates and Magesi FC. His presence at the game has sparked speculation about a possible return to the Premier Soccer League (PSL).

Although his move to Qatar SC didn’t bring the success many hoped for, Tau still has much to offer. Rumours previously linked him with a transfer to Al-Gharafa, but nothing has been confirmed. With his experience and talent, it’s likely that clubs across Africa or Asia may still show interest.

For now, fans wait to see where the former Bafana Bafana star will land next — and whether it might be time for him to come home.
