Former Kaizer Chiefs striker Thembinkosi Biyela has criticized the underwhelming performances of Tashreeq Morris and Ranga Chivaviro, arguing that not every player is suited for the club’s high standards. Speaking to Kick Off, Biyela called Morris’ signing a mistake and questioned Chivaviro’s fit, urging Chiefs to release both to address their goalscoring woes as they battle for a top-eight finish in the Betway Premiership.
Tashreeq Morris, signed from SuperSport United in January 2025 for R5 million, has scored just one goal in 12 appearances, while Ranga Chivaviro managed five goals in 21 matches across all competitions this season. Thembinkosi Biyela, a former Chiefs forward, labeled Morris’ transfer a blunder. “His signing was a mistake; it should not have happened,” Biyela told Kick off. “He was signed mainly because of the goal he scored against Chiefs, but his track record isn’t impressive.”
Biyela argued that Chiefs’ tactics don’t suit Morris, a target man who thrives on crosses, not mobility. “Chiefs expect him to play as a mobile striker, but the team doesn’t provide enough crosses,” he explained. Similarly, he believes Chivaviro, previously with Marumo Gallants, has failed to meet expectations. “Chivaviro has also underperformed,” Biyela said. “Kaizer Chiefs is a big team, and not everyone is capable of playing there.”
With Chiefs ninth in the Betway Premiership after a 1-1 draw against Polokwane City, their goal tally of 25 in 30 matches highlights their attacking struggles. Biyela insisted that Amakhosi’s tradition demands ruthless decisions. “They need to find someone better than [Morris],” he urged, suggesting both strikers be released to make way for proven quality to restore Chiefs’ attacking edge.
