Mamelodi Sundowns are reportedly willing to break their transfer record to sign Tanzanian midfielder Feisal Salum from Azam FC, according to sources close to the club.
Salum has been on the radar of multiple teams, including Kaizer Chiefs, and is regarded as one of the most talented midfielders in the region.
Sources in South Africa and Tanzania indicate that Sundowns are serious about bringing in the 27-year-old. However, completing the transfer may be complicated by Azam FC’s hefty $10 million (R183 million) buyout clause for overseas moves.
A source confirmed that Sundowns are aware of the financial demands but remain determined to push for the signing.
"Sundowns are interested in Feisal (Salum), and if they go ahead with the deal, it would break their transfer record. Azam FC have set the price at R183 million, which is a significant amount, but negotiations between the clubs will determine the final outcome. Sundowns want him for next season," the source revealed.
Additional reports suggest that Sundowns representatives have already visited Tanzania to watch Salum in action and assess whether he would be a good fit for the squad.
"Sundowns officials traveled to Tanzania to evaluate the situation and observe him play. They are seriously considering adding him to their squad," another insider disclosed.
While Sundowns are currently leading the pursuit, Kaizer Chiefs and several North African clubs are also monitoring Salum’s situation. Chiefs have been linked with him before, but the high price tag could be an obstacle.
If Sundowns go through with the transfer and set a new club record, it would further emphasize their determination to strengthen their squad and maintain dominance in both domestic and continental competitions.
