Contract Drama at Kaizer Chiefs – Big Names Could Be Shown the Door

 Kaizer Chiefs are preparing to make important decisions regarding the futures of Dillan Solomons and Gaston Sirino as the season draws to a close. Both players’ contracts are set to expire at the end of June, and neither has enjoyed regular game time under current head coaches Khalil Ben Youssef and Cedric Kaze.

Earlier in the season, Solomons dropped down the team hierarchy around October, limiting his opportunities on the field. However, he managed to turn things around with a series of strong performances in the CAF Confederation Cup, which helped him regain the coaching staff’s confidence. Since then, the right-back has featured in 19 matches across all competitions and has scored one goal, showing signs of improvement and determination to reclaim his place in the squad.

In contrast, Gaston Sirino’s situation at Naturena appears far less secure. The experienced attacker, who joined Kaizer Chiefs as a free agent in 2024 after a successful period with Mamelodi Sundowns, arrived with high expectations. Unfortunately, he has struggled to reproduce the same level of performance that made him stand out at his previous club. Injuries have also played a role in interrupting his consistency and overall contribution to the team.

So far this season, Sirino has recorded just one goal and two assists in 23 appearances in all competitions. These statistics are considered below par for a player of his calibre and experience. At 35 years old, and with limited impact over the past season and a half, it seems increasingly likely that he may be released when the current campaign ends.

Sirino is not the only player whose future at the club is uncertain. George Matlou, Fiacre Ntwari, Khanyisa Mayo, and Ashley Du Preez are also among those who could leave as Kaizer Chiefs look to rebuild and strengthen their squad for the future.

Meanwhile, the team is preparing for their upcoming Betway Premiership match against Orbit College on Monday. A victory could see them climb to third place in the standings. After enduring a difficult spell with four consecutive losses in February and early March, Kaizer Chiefs managed to recover by securing two wins before the international break, showing signs of renewed momentum.
