Kaizer Chiefs Announce Key Player’s Withdrawal from National Team After Call-Up
Kaizer Chiefs goalkeeper Fiacre Ntwari has been withdrawn from the Rwanda national football team squad after initially receiving a call-up for international duty.
Ntwari was expected to be part of Rwanda’s preparations for their upcoming international fixture. However, those plans were cut short after he was ruled out due to medical reasons, preventing him from joining the squad during this international window.
Amavubi are scheduled to face Grenada on March 27 as part of the FIFA Series March 2026. The match will be played at the Amahoro Stadium, where Rwanda will aim to deliver a strong performance in front of their home supporters.
The goalkeeper’s withdrawal is a setback for both the player and the national team. His call-up had been seen as a positive development, especially as he continues to build his career at Kaizer Chiefs. Playing at international level would have provided him with another opportunity to gain valuable experience and further establish himself.
Following his withdrawal, Rwanda’s technical team acted quickly to find a replacement. Former Free State Stars goalkeeper Olivier Kwizera has been called up to take his place in the squad. Kwizera, who currently plays for Rayon Sports, has been in good form and is expected to step in effectively.

His inclusion ensures that the team maintains depth and stability in the goalkeeping department ahead of their upcoming match. International fixtures often require quick adjustments, and Rwanda will be hoping for a smooth transition despite the late change.
For Ntwari, the focus will now shift to recovery. Injuries and medical concerns can be frustrating, especially when they interrupt international opportunities. However, his priority will be to regain full fitness so he can return to action as soon as possible.
Kaizer Chiefs will also be monitoring his condition closely, as they will want their goalkeeper available for upcoming domestic fixtures. His fitness will be important for the club as they continue their campaign.
Although this situation is disappointing, Ntwari is expected to have more opportunities to represent Rwanda in the future once he has fully recovered.
