Kaizer Chiefs have suffered a significant setback ahead of their crucial CAF Confederation Cup Group D match against ZESCO United, with several key players ruled out through injury. The Soweto giants, who will face the Zambian side at Moses Mabhida Stadium on Sunday, are under pressure to secure maximum points to boost their chances of reaching the knockout stages.

Co‑coach Cedric Kaze confirmed that six important squad members will miss out on the encounter due to ongoing fitness issues. George Matlou, although back in training, has not trained with the squad for four weeks and is not considered ready for selection. Defender Thabo Cele, Bradley Cross and midfielder Sibongiseni “Ox” Mthethwa remain sidelined, while Reeve Frosler is set for a long absence after undergoing surgery. Goalkeeper Fiacre Ntwari has started light training but is not yet match fit.

Rushwin Dortley is also unavailable, still recovering from a lengthy injury that was complicated late last year, though club staff are hopeful he could return to full training in the coming weeks.

Chiefs come into this fixture off the back of a 1‑0 away victory against ZESCO United in their previous meeting in Ndola, with Pule Mmodi scoring early to secure the win. That result lifted the team’s hopes of progressing from a competitive Group D that also features Zamalek and Al Masry.
