Kaizer Chiefs have confirmed a new addition to their senior coaching setup as the Soweto giants prepare for a critical phase across multiple competitions this season. Co‑coach Cedric Kaze revealed that former Chiefs striker Dillon Sheppard has joined the first‑team technical team to assist in preparations for upcoming league and cup fixtures.

Sheppard, a familiar face in Amakhosi circles, steps in from his role with Chiefs’ Diski Challenge (reserve) side to support co‑coaches Cedric Kaze and Khalil Ben Youssef. The duo have been leading the senior team following the departure of former head coach Nasreddine Nabi.

Kaze said the club needed extra hands as Chiefs juggle campaigns in the DStv Premiership, Nedbank Cup, and the CAF Confederation Cup. Bringing in Sheppard is aimed at boosting tactical work and training intensity as the season enters its busiest stretch.

Sheppard’s return will be welcomed by supporters given his history with the club as a player and coach. He enjoyed a successful playing career in South Africa before moving into coaching, where he has developed young talent within Chiefs’ structures. His return to the senior setup signals Chiefs’ intent to blend experience with fresh ideas.

Chiefs, one of South Africa’s most supported teams, are under pressure to turn around recent inconsistent results. After parting ways with Nabi late in 2025, Kaze and Ben Youssef were appointed co‑coaches for the remainder of the season, tasked with stabilising performances and pushing for silverware.

The addition of Sheppard reflects a broader trend in South African football of former players transitioning into key coaching roles. Chiefs fans will now watch closely to see if the revamped technical team can spark improved results in the months ahead.
