Mamelodi Sundowns are yet to announce any new arrivals this pre-season, but the club is reportedly eyeing two standout defenders who could significantly strengthen their squad and widen the gap between them and domestic rivals Kaizer Chiefs and Orlando Pirates.
After being knocked out early in the FIFA Club World Cup, coach Miguel Cardoso is expected to reinforce the squad to bounce back stronger. Despite winning their eighth consecutive DStv Premiership title, Sundowns fell short in the CAF Champions League final—highlighting the need for added depth and quality, particularly if they aim to conquer Africa.
Following their return from the USA, the Tshwane-based side has released five players but has yet to secure any signings. With a good balance of youth and experience, Sundowns are expected to focus on bringing in more seasoned players, especially to boost their chances in continental competition.
One standout name linked with a move to Chloorkop is Fawaaz Basadien, a highly-rated left-back from Stellenbosch FC. Previously on Kaizer Chiefs’ radar, Chiefs reportedly couldn’t meet Stellies’ valuation. At 28, Basadien is widely regarded as the top left-back in South Africa, known for his strength in both defence and attack.
Another player attracting attention is Thabo Moloisane, also from Stellenbosch. His performances last season were impressive, making him a sought-after defender. For Sundowns, Moloisane could serve as an ideal replacement for Abdelmounaim Boutouil, also known as Suarez.
These two additions could help Sundowns maintain domestic dominance and boost their chances of continental glory.
