- Pyramids had a good 2024/25 season
- They won the Champions League
- Egyptian outfit close to signing Ribeiro?
WHAT HAPPENED?
Lucas Ribeiro has been a factor since joining Mamelodi Sundowns in the 2023/24 season.
He started his Masandawana journey with 16 goals and nine assists in the 36 games he played.
In the recent campaign, the versatile attacker found the back of the net 21 times and provided 14 assists for the Premier Soccer League champions across all competitions.
THE BIGGER PICTURE
The Egyptian side sold one of their star attackers, Ibrahim Adel, to UAE side Al Jazira in a deal reportedly worth around $5 million (R88 million).
According to Al Ahly legend and former Egypt international goalkeeper Ahmed Shobier, Lucas Ribeiro has been identified as the main target, and that contact has already been made.
WHAT SHOBIER SAID
"Pyramids is in advanced negotiations with South African club Mamelodi Sundowns to sign the Brazilian winger Lucas Ribeiro Costa," the Al Ahly TV presenter said.
Honestly, if Pyramids manages to secure the player, it will be a blockbuster deal and a very strong addition to the Pyramids team, especially since they want to sign a new winger to replace Ibrahim Adel."
WHAT NEXT?
Sundowns have not responded to those speculations, but it will not be logical to let one of their best players leave as the club strategises on how to win the Caf Champions League.
Coach Miguel Cardoso knows he has to deliver on the continent to avoid a possible sacking.
