Mamelodi Sundowns Prepare Record-Breaking R25 Million Offer for Bafana Star

Mamelodi Sundowns are reportedly on the verge of making a historic transfer move, aiming to sign Fawaaz Basadien from Stellenbosch FC in a deal that could become one of the most expensive in PSL history.

Basadien, who has been a standout performer over the past three seasons, has attracted strong interest from domestic rivals Kaizer Chiefs and Orlando Pirates. However, Sundowns are ready to outbid their competitors by leveraging their financial advantage. The club is said to be prepared to offer between R20 million and R25 million to land the Bafana Bafana defender, according to Soccer Laduma.

The urgency behind Sundowns’ pursuit stems from their desire to strengthen the squad, especially after recent challenges in the CAF Champions League. While they’ve dominated South African football, continental success has proven more elusive, prompting them to make bold investment decisions.

A source close to the situation revealed, “Sundowns are aware of growing interest in Basadien, including from clubs in North Africa, so they’re raising their offer. They’re even willing to go as high as R25 million, possibly adding a player to the deal.”

It is believed that Katlego Mashego could be part of a swap to sweeten the deal. This aggressive approach from Sundowns underlines their determination to secure Basadien, even as questions arise over whether such a high valuation is sustainable for the South African football market.

Basadien's consistent performances have clearly placed him among the league’s elite, but the potential R25 million plus player package may spark debate about transfer inflation in local football.
