Kaizer Chiefs have officially parted ways with midfielder Edson Castillo, whose estimated market value stands at over R6 million. His exit adds to a growing list of player departures at the club as they continue restructuring under new leadership.
Castillo, who joined Amakhosi last season, becomes the seventh player to leave the club in the ongoing squad overhaul. A representative from Andrade Sports Group confirmed his departure, expressing gratitude for the opportunity with Chiefs. He described Castillo’s time in South Africa as a valuable experience both personally and professionally.
However, the representative also acknowledged that the arrival of a new head coach has shifted the club’s direction, making it difficult for Castillo to remain part of the current project. The player’s camp now believes it is the right time to seek a new chapter in his career, though they remain open to staying within the African football market due to the positive experience in South Africa.
In addition to Castillo’s exit, Yusuf Maart has also left the club to join SV Ried, becoming the sixth confirmed departure. According to Transfermarkt, Castillo is valued at over R6 million, highlighting the significance of his exit.
Meanwhile, across town, Orlando Pirates are also in the midst of a major squad shake-up, having released six players already, with more expected to follow. Most recently, Monnapule Saleng was loaned to Orbit College, and Phillip Ndlondlo was let go as part of the club’s transition plans. Both Soweto giants are clearly making bold changes ahead of the new season.
