Cardoso Got Frustrated With Suarez Errors See What He Did That Surprise Supporters

Cardoso Backs Suarez After Error Ahead of CAF Clash

Mamelodi – April 17, 2025

Mamelodi Sundowns head coach Miguel Cardoso has thrown his support behind defender Lucas Suarez following a costly error in Sunday’s league match against Kaizer Chiefs, just days before their crucial CAF Champions League semi-final against Al Ahly.

Suarez’s misjudged back pass gifted Chiefs a soft equalizer in the 1-1 draw at FNB Stadium. While the moment sparked criticism from fans and pundits, Cardoso remained calm, emphasizing the need for unity and trust as the team prepares for the continental showdown.

"Lucas is a top professional and an important part of our structure," Cardoso said during Tuesday’s media briefing. "Mistakes are part of football. What matters is how we respond as a team, and I know he will bounce back stronger."

Cardoso stressed that the focus must now shift to their upcoming clash with Egyptian giants Al Ahly, scheduled for Saturday. With a place in the CAF Champions League final at stake, Sundowns are aiming to maintain their composure and correct minor lapses in concentration.

"We’re preparing well for Al Ahly. These are the moments players dream of — to compete at the highest level. One error won’t define Suarez, nor this team," the coach added.

The Brazilian defender, who joined Sundowns earlier this season, has otherwise impressed with his composure and ball distribution. His recent mistake, though unfortunate, is unlikely to jeopardize his place in the starting XI for the semi-final.

With confidence in his squad unwavering, Cardoso made it clear that Sundowns will approach the next challenge with focus, resilience, and belief — key ingredients as they chase continental glory.
