Are Kaizer Chiefs Chasing 31-Year-Old Midfielder With Two Goals?, And Leaves Mzansi Talking, Look

Kaizer Chiefs are reportedly keeping a close eye on 31-year-old midfielder Athini Jodwana as a potential signing ahead of the next transfer window. The Motsepe Foundation Championship star, who currently plays for Durban City, has impressed Amakhosi’s scouting team.

Jodwana as a Backup Option

According to Soccer Laduma, Jodwana is not Chiefs' first-choice target, but he remains a strong option if they fail to secure their preferred midfield reinforcements. The experienced midfielder, who previously played for Chippa United, is known for his composure on the ball and ability to dictate play.

A source close to the club revealed:

“He is one of the local players that they have been monitoring. They are exploring all possibilities as they may not sign some of their desired targets. But he is a very good midfielder with experience.”

Jodwana featured in the Nedbank Cup semi-final last month, coming off the bench during Durban City's loss to Marumo Gallants. His solid performances in the Championship have sparked interest, but it remains uncertain whether Chiefs will make an official move.

Chiefs’ Transfer Plans and Struggles

Kaizer Chiefs have undergone a squad overhaul this season, signing 10 new players under head coach Nasreddine Nabi. However, despite the reinforcements, Amakhosi have struggled, winning only eight of their 23 matches in the Betway Premiership and sitting eighth on the table.

A Chance at Silverware?

The Nedbank Cup presents Chiefs’ only realistic shot at a trophy this season. They will face Mamelodi Sundowns in the semi-finals later this month, hoping to break their long-standing trophy drought. Will Jodwana be part of the squad next season? Only time will tell.
