Coming into the match, Amakhosi were looking for three points to jump into sixth in the Betway Premiership. Given Msimango got a rare start in defence replacing injured Rushwin Dortley. Edmilson Dove, who recently returned to the team after a long-term injury, retained his place at left-back.
Chiefs coach Nabi opted to start with Mdu Shabalala upfront alongside Gaston Sirino, Makabi Lilepo and Ashley Du Preez. In the 42nd minutes, Shabalala had a chance to open the scoring after he stole the ball from the City defender. Faced one-on-one with Darren Keet, the young midfielder fired wide to the displeasure of the crowd.

Amakhosi threw everything at City in the second half but Muhsin Ertugral’s men held on for a draw. Since taking over in January, the Turkish coach has collected four points from his former club Chiefs.
After the match, Nabi lashed out at his players for not taking their chances.
“The game is finished, you need more responsibility. We are in this position as Kaizer Chiefs because we miss the ball like that, Nabi said. “You control the game, create all the chances, and after you lose. Come on, come on, it’s not possible for Kaizer Chiefs. Okay, we lost points today but have a game this week, we need three points.”
