Kaizer Chiefs-Linked Makabi Lilepo Ruled Out of Valenciennes Clash Amid Transfer Speculation

French third-division club Valenciennes FC's head coach Vincent Hognon has confirmed that Congolese winger Makabi Lilepo will be absent from Friday evening's match against US Orléans, hinting at an imminent transfer to Kaizer Chiefs.

Reports suggest that Kaizer Chiefs have secured the services of the 27-year-old winger for a fee of approximately R10 million. Lilepo, who currently plies his trade in France, is expected to soon finalize the deal with the South African club.

Coach Hognon disclosed Lilepo's absence from the upcoming fixture against US Orléans during a media briefing but did not provide specific details regarding the situation. His absence has fueled further speculation surrounding his potential move to Kaizer Chiefs.

"We don’t have too many injuries, apart from Jean Louchet. We also have some flu, some uncertainties. [Makabi] Lilepo won’t be there either. I think it will be okay overall," stated Hognon during the pre-match press conference.

Lilepo has featured in nine matches for Valenciennes this season, contributing with one assist. While his stats at the club may not be eye-catching, he has made a mark on the international stage representing the DR Congo national team. Since his international debut in 2021, Lilepo has scored one goal in 11 appearances for his country.

Kaizer Chiefs' interest in Lilepo aligns with their strategy to strengthen their squad during the transfer window. As the club seeks to enhance their attacking options, Lilepo's speed and versatility on the wings could offer valuable depth to their attacking lineup.

Should the transfer be finalized, Lilepo's addition to the Amakhosi squad would bolster their aspirations both domestically in the Betway Premiership and in continental competitions such as the Nedbank Cup.

As Lilepo prepares to make his way to South Africa in the near future, Kaizer Chiefs fans eagerly anticipate his arrival and are hopeful that the Congolese winger will seamlessly adapt to the rigors of the Premier Soccer League. Expectations are high for Lilepo to make a positive impact and contribute to the club's success on the pitch.

The impending arrival of Lilepo at Naturena signals yet another exciting chapter for Kaizer Chiefs as they strive for excellence and progress in their pursuit of silverware in the local and continental football spheres.
